Definition
A generally hemispherical or conical lamp attachment of glass, metal, fabric, cardboard, paper, or other translucent or opaque material. It encircles the chimney and burner of a fuel lamp, or the bulb and socket of an electric lamp. Used to diffuse or reduce the light of a lamp, or to direct it over a particular area.
