Definition
A rubber slab, of irregular pentagonal shape, measuring 17 inches (43 centimeters) at the widest point, white in color usually with a black band around the edge, with metallic stakes fixed to the base and placed at one corner of the infield. Set solidly into ground and used as the fourth base of the diamond a player must touch to score one point. Also used to mark the lateral limits of the striking zone when the batter is in position.
