Definition
The metal part of the lamp that is screwed into the collar of the font. It consists of a circular base which is typically perforated for air intake and a narrow slit on top through which a wick is fed and through which the flame emerges. The wick is generally regulated by a thumb wheel at the side. Several prongs or a collar-type holder may extend upwards from the base. Some types have more than one central dome to support multiple wicks. Used to draw and guide the wick from the font. Also used to support the lamp chimney.
