Definition
A small, flat, ornamental case, usually oval, circular, or rectangular, made of precious metal and generally consisting of two hinged halves held together by a clasp with a ring and generally suspended from a necklace or a fastener. Used for adornment and also used to hold a memento, such as a miniature portrait or a lock of hair.
